Genghis Khan, the legendary Mongol leader, was always accompanied by a faithful falcon. This bird was not merely a companion but a symbol of loyalty and deep friendship, assisting him in hunting and sharing his journeys.
One day, Genghis Khan set out alone into the wilderness, with his loyal falcon by his side. After a long period of travel, they became very thirsty. Genghis Khan found a spring at the base of a mountain and filled a cup with water. Eager to drink, he brought the cup to his lips, only to have the falcon swoop down and knock it out of his hand, causing the water to spill.
Undeterred, Genghis Khan tried again. But each time he brought the cup close to his mouth, the falcon repeated its actions, striking the cup with its wings and spilling the water. After several attempts, frustration overcame him. In a moment of blind rage, he drew his sword and struck the falcon, killing it instantly.
Overcome with grief and remorse, Genghis Khan ascended to the spring and discovered a large dead snake in the pool. The snake had poisoned the water, and it dawned on him that the falcon had been trying to protect him from the venom. The bird’s actions were motivated by a desire to save him, not harm him.
Deeply pained by the realization, Genghis Khan returned to his camp, wrapped his fallen friend in a shroud, and had a grave prepared. He then ordered the creation of a golden statue of the falcon and placed it in a prominent place to honor his memory.
The statue bore two inscriptions: "Your friend remains your friend, even if their actions upset you" and "Every action driven by anger results in failure." These inscriptions served as a constant reminder to Genghis Khan and others about the importance of patience and understanding in relationships and that true friendships deserve appreciation and compassion even in times of conflict.
In this way, Genghis Khan immortalized the memory of his loyal falcon and learned a profound lesson about loyalty, anger, and the consequences of hasty actions without fully understanding the intention behind them.
